It's pretty ridiculous you can't even see chat in VoDs. The real solution should be Amazon bringing back functionality for its own Twitch app and or Twitch bringing back the general AndroidTV fork and making it run well on the hardware it supports. I also like that the Firestick runs off of a single USB port (also works with a 2-1 Y splitter but I'm not sure if that's improved performance). I want something to hide next to the back-side HDMI port to save table-top space. I considered the Nvidia Shield but it kind of looks like a scam an Arm + low end Maxwell SoC in a piece of plastic for $150-$200? The AppleTV is a slightly better deal at $120, but still not what I'm looking for. So currently, Twitch on Firestick is a choice between functionality but stuttery 60FPS streams and less functionality but smooth 60FPS streams. This is a separate issue from when the GGwGTV down converts Twitch 60FPS streams to 30FPS under certain video settings (namely, Dolby Vision Low Latency enabled, and certain color format modes). This immediately made me suspect that the CCwGTV is still running the v9.0.0 version. It has very poor frame pacing for 60FPS streams, and it looked pretty much identical to what I saw in the official Twitch app for the Google Chromecast with Google TV. There's something suspicious I noticed about the v9.0.0 general fork behavior on my Firestick 4K and 4K Max. After installing, you will have access to the same functionality as what you'd get on a console or Google Chromecast. To do this, delete the existing Twitch app, install the "Downloader" app from the normal Fire TV app store, point to and download the Twitch v9.0.0 APK link on APKmirror, then enable developer options in your Firestick settings by clicking "about" five times and enabling sideloading. The Firestick can be reverted to v9.0.0 with all the chat and UI functionality enabled. Possibly as a result of the general branch being depreciated (which is sad and I hope it gets resurrected), Roku lost its official Twitch app support and the Firestick moved to a custom Amazon Fire TV version. The most recent version of the general fork is v9.0.0. It appears that recently there was a branching of the Twitch app from a general fork (Android TV), which seems to now be depreciated - or at least on hold - to a per-manufacturer app design. Somehow, even with the twitch app problems, Firestick is still the best small form factor device. I hope they do, because if they don't I'm basically just waiting for a streaming device competitor to actually do everything right. Who knows if they're actually going to fix it. All I can say is twitch support told me they are investigating the issue with VOD chat. I do have a Firestick 4K Max coming in the mail, but I doubt the app will be different. But I would rather just keep my Firestick and return the others if I'm not even getting proper 60FPS on 60FPS streams. The wifi performance is good and the app does have the VOD chat and ability to chat within live streams. And I'm 100% sure after going back and forth, the Chromecast is doing this. The device output is still 60Hz, but the internal framerate for Twitch is 30FPS. But.60FPS streams are converted to an effective 30FPS. The Roku doesn't even have an official Twitch app, and the only workaround is really, really bad. Not good news from testing a Roku 4K and a Chromecast 2022.
